Professor Sir John Holman

Sir John Holman has been Director of the National Science Learning Centre in the University of York, UK, since 2004, and the government’s National STEM Director since 2006.

John has taught, and written books for, learners of science and chemistry at all levels, from 11 year olds upwards.  He currently teaches chemistry to honours undergraduates.

After studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge, John taught in a range of secondary schools and in 1994 he became Head of Watford Grammar School for Boys, an all-ability, multi-ethnic, science specialist school. In 2000 he left Watford to become Salters Professor of Chemical Education and Director of the Science Curriculum Centre at the University of York.

He was knighted in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List, for services to education.
